Don’t Just Learn, Do!
We
all have come to be victims of this especially at the beginning of our learning
curves where we just observe and watch rather than take action.
There
could be many reasons to this. One common reason though is people are scared or
fear that they are not ready. Remove this delusion from your mind and take
action. By implementing actions, you are more prone to developing the skills
much faster.
Yes,
observing and learning is obviously key to grasping the concept but don’t waste
too much time on this as well as practice what you have learnt to develop and
take in the information visually and through experience.
Another
crucial reason why people don’t take action instantly is because they hesitate
and feel they don’t understand it enough to be able to put it into practice. What
people fail to comprehend at this point is at that if they put what they are
learning into practice, then they would eventually gather an understanding much
quicker and be able to move on and increase their skills.
Both
activities are good and necessary to ensure you develop and achieve the goals
you aim to achieve but to single them out and focus on learning with no
implementation of this newly found information would set you up with a weaker
understanding.
Experience
in accomplishing a certain task gives you a greater understanding as well as
uplifts your confidence in tackling it in the future for your understanding of
the concept increases.
Learning
is not always just taking in information and remembering it or just having a
mental picture of how it should be done but taking the time to practice what
you have learnt and making use of that information.
Another
point that I would like to stress upon is that when you want to learn
something, especially in IT and programming, you should do something that you
want to accomplish.
Let’s
just say that you want to build an application. What would you want the application
to do? Break down the different functions you wish for the application to be
able to do and research and learn as to how this can be done.
When
you discover the method used to do this, you should put it into action and
implement it into your application and watch how your application takes shape
and your understanding of each feature and concept becomes easier to
understand.
